Types of Eye Surgery & tips to protect your eye after surgery

Types of Eye Surgery

Cataract Surgery: Almost 50% adults over the age of 60 suffer from cataracts. Cataract surgery is the most effect and also the safest treatment to cure patients with vision loss. However, the procedure is usually avoided for people with other eye diseases. The surgery takes about 30 minutes and is performed under minimal sedation. The doctors replace the eye lens with an artificial lens to restore vision.

Corrective Surgery: It is considered to be the most popular eye surgery with nearly 2,000 people getting it done every day. LASIK and PRK are the most common methods of this surgery. While the Laser-Assisted surgery is usually used to correct hyperopia, myopia, and astigmatism, PRK is preferred to treat thin corneas.

Glaucoma Surgery: Glaucoma is a condition that causes intraocular pressure and eventual loss of vision. The condition is not reversible; however, glaucoma surgery can reduce the intraocular pressure. The surgery can also be performed multiple times.

Lid Repair Surgery: This surgery can be done for both cosmetic as well as functional reasons. It is most commonly conducted to treat ptosis or droopy eyelids. It is suggested to people who have obstructed vision, or have a problem because of droopy eyelids.

Orbital Surgery: The treatment is an option for those with conditions such as enucleation, anopthalmia, and evisceration. It is also an option for people suffering from eye problems such as absent eyes, eye tumors, or trauma.
